I usualy just target all cans and untarget them as I go through them. Ofcourse depending on the number of targets your ship can handle this might not be a solution for you.

Just remember that the total for the entire period will be deducted from the hotspot even if you abort the program before it ends. So setting log periods and canceling after 24h will depleat the planet faster.
